What is your favorite childhood memory? Dragging my huge green toy bucket into the driveway, filling it with water like a swimming pool and then playing in it with my younger sister.
At what point, before coming to SLU, did you start to believe that you could compete athletically at the collegiate level, and why? Ever since my freshman year of high school I wanted to swim in college. The bigger question for me was what division of athletics did I wanted to aim for.
What do you consider to be the best thing you've done to help another person? I helped a friend get back on the straight and narrow after some rough times.
What does it mean to you to be a Billiken? Being a Billiken is about being willing to put forth your best effort and not give up on the athletic or academic goals you've set.
What is the most significant way you have changed since coming to SLU? I've become stronger in my opinions, and I'm not as nervous about expressing them as I sometimes was at home.
Do you think you could ever be a coach, and why or why not? I think so because I really like helping people learn things, and it's always a lot of fun to watch people progress, especially little kids.
What is your most cherished material possession, and why? My photo albums because I use them like scrapbooks. They have so many memories.
What is the most important thing you've learned from athletic competition? I can push myself a little bit harder every time I compete and it will eventually pay off. Even if it takes a couple years to see the results.
What is one thing about you that people would be surprised to discover? I'm secretly kind of a girly-girl and I really like getting all dressed up.
What is your favorite motivational saying or expression? I like the saying "Man up" because it's gotten me through a lot of tough workouts and it comes with some funny memories.
What has been your most memorable vacation? Going to Australia and New Zealand for three weeks the summer between sixth and seventh grade. I got to try a bunch of new things and meet a lot of new people.
When someone is visiting your hometown, what is something everyone should see? I'm from Alaska so just being there is amazing. If its summer, definitely hike Flat Top and look out over the city ... it's beautiful. In the winter, going skiing on the inlet or snowboarding at Alyeksa is awesome.
Who is the most famous person you have ever met? Michael Phelps
What sporting event do you most want to see in person? Either Duel in the Pool or the college Ultimate Frisbee finals
If you could go back in time, what sporting event would you like to see happen again? I would have liked to be in the courtroom when the Dred Scott decision was made.
What famous person are you tired of hearing and reading about? Miley Cyrus
What skill do you wish you possessed? I've always been trying to learn how to wink and I still haven't gotten it.
What was your summer job in high school? Teaching swim lessons and working at West Marine
What has been your best day as a Billiken student-athlete? Making the team!
What is the toughest thing about being a college student-athlete? Figuring out when to eat so that you're not working out on a full tummy.
What is something you have to do before every meet? Use my inhaler
What is your greatest achievement that has nothing to do with your sport? Winning the National Unit 3 Award at the "We the People" national competition
What is the most interesting thing you did over the summer? I went dip netting with my boyfriend and a friend. We camped in a VW bus on the beach, caught 34 salmon, found a good hole-in-the-wall restaurant, made a bonfire and had a great time!
Who is the loudest person on your team? Definitely Michael Dahle
Who is the teammate that is most like your coach and why? Will Butzke and coach Halliburton are basically the same person except for the age difference.
What do you want to do after you graduate? Return to Alaska and be a bilingual speech therapist in the public school system.
Where do you hope to be and what do you hope to be doing in 10 years? Everything! I want to be climbing mountains, hiking and camping. I want to be outside enjoying life in Alaska and maybe squeezing in some world traveling. We'll see!
What is something you just can't get enough of? Nutella
If you could play your sport with anyone (living or dead), who would it be? A workout with Ryan Lochte, Cullen Jones or Lenny Krayzelburg would be awesome!
What meet are you most looking forward to this season? Lindenwood, because my parents are going to be there!
