The Saint Louis men's and women's swimming and diving squads each picked up a pair of victories Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Billiken men defeated host IUPUI 95-36 and Western Illinois 104-27, but fell to Ball State 81-50. The SLU women's team met the same fate as it downed IUPUI 104-36 and Western Illinois 79-61, but succumbed to Ball State 99.5-40.5.
Four Bills picked up individual wins during the four-team meet. Katie Kolster was the lone first-place finisher for the Saint Louis women's team, out-swimming the competition in the 200 free (1:57.50). On the men's side, Brian Brasser won the 100 breast (1:00.35), Michael Dahle finished first in the 200 IM (1:59.05) and Chad Carmichael placed first in the three-meter diving competition (257.40). Additionally, the SLU women came in first in the 400-free relay (3:49.79).
A number of Billikens finished second in their respective events. Laura Robertson came in second in two events - the 200 breast (2:30.86) and the 200 IM (2:16.86) - to lead the women's squad. Billy Hrabovsky and Dahle each placed second in a pair of events. Hrabovsky earned 264.90 points in the one-meter competition and registered 236.15 points in the three-meter event. Dahle touched second in the 200 fly (1:58.01) and the 200 back (1:56.94).
Other individual second-place finishers were Anna Larson on the one-meter board (230.85), Michael Kelly in the 1000 free (10:04.27), Stephen Sheridan in the 200 free (1:48.42) and Will Butzke in the 100 fly (52.84). Maggie Brabbins (5:23.59) and Spencer Litzau (4:55.70) placed second in the women's and men's 500 free races, respectively. SLU also came in second in the men's 200-medley (1:37.40) and 400-free (3:17.19) relays.
The Bills return to competition Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, when they host Evansville in a 1 p.m. dual at Simon Recreation Center. Saint Louis' eight seniors will be honored during the meet, SLU's final home competition of the season.
