Final Stats

Springfield, Mo. - Freshmen Lexie Lindblad and Caitlin Brenner combined on an early goal as the Saint Louis field hockey team posted its first victory of the season, a 3-0 win over Robert Morris. The contest was played at Plaster Field in Springfield, Mo.

"It was nice to see all of our hard work pay off in a victory," Billiken head coach Lauren Bruce said. "The team played well the entire game, but what I was pleased to see was how our organization improved in the second half. I'm happy for Lexie who scored her first collegiate goal, which turned out to be the game winner."

In the sixth minute of play, Lindblad collected a pass from Brenner and tallied to give the Billikens their first score of the season. Robert Morris pressed the attack, but Billiken goalie Alex LaBarge made four saves to keep the Colonials off the scoreboard. In the second half, the Billikens kept up the attack and sealed the victory. Sarah Lohmann fed Kelsey Shultz sealed the victory with a score at the 68:49 mark and the final 3-0 margin.

The Billikens improve to 1-2 on the season, while the contest was the season opener for the Colonials. The win was the first career victory for SLU head coach Lauren Bruce. SLU will try to make it two straight when it faces Missouri State at noon on Monday.
