Philadelphia -
Temple's Kate Briglia registed a hat trick as the Saint Louis field hockey squad dropped a 5-0 decision to the Owls Sunday afternoon at Geasey Field.
The Owls put the first four shots of the game on the SLU cage, but Billiken keeper Alex LaBarge came up with two saves, and the SLU defense blocked another attempt. At the 8:24 mark, Briglia struck for the first goal of the game. Nearly four minutes later, the Temple sophomore found the back of the cage again as the Owls took a 2-0 lead. After a penalty corner, Briglia scored again to stake Temple to a 3-0 lead. Nicole Kent nearly tallied for the Billikens, but Temple keeper Sarah Dalrymple came up with the save.
Chelsea Hower had the best scoring chance for the Billikens in the second half but her shot narrowly missed and went wide. Temple scored a goal midway through the second half, and the Owls closed out the scoring with a penalty stroke goal.
Alex LaBarge made six saves on the afternoon. The Billikens close out the regular season with two home games this weekend. SLU hosts La Salle at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Anheuser-Busch Center. Senior Day is Sunday, Oct. 31, in a 2 p.m. contest.
