In their final meet of 2010, the Saint Louis University swimming and diving teams swept Lindenwood Friday evening at Simon Recreation Center. The women's team claimed a 198-58 win, and the Billiken men downed the Lions 186-73. The Billikens took first place in all four relays on the day to key the day.
Sophomore Taylor Streid and freshmen Taylor Rogers and Lizzy Osterman all claimed two first-place finishes for the women's side. Streid won the first individual event of the evening by claiming first in the 1000 freestyle, and she won the 100 free later in the meet. Rogers touched first in the 200 free as well as in the 500 free. Osterman matched those efforts in the 400 IM and the 200 fly. Ariel Hyams won the 200 breaststroke and slid under the two-minute mark in the 200 free just behind Rogers. Molly Sheridan won the 50 free, and Elizabeth Molloy won the 200 back.
Christiana Eltiste was victorious in the one-meter diving event with 253.30 points.
Freshman Patrick Merlihan won both of the distance events on the men's side, claiming both the 1000 and 500 freestyle races. Senior Stephen Sheridan sprinted to wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle events in times of 21.54 and 47.64, respectively. Senior Michael Dahle also won two events, the 400 IM and the 200 backstroke, while Brian Brasser continued his strong showings to win the 200 breaststroke. Chad Carmichael finished first for the Billikens in the one-meter board with a score of 304.85.
After a break for finals, the Billikens go on a winter training trip. SLU's next meet is at home Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 when it hosts South Dakota State.
