PEORIA, Ill. -
Bradley used a torrid shooting performance to defeat Saint Louis 81-64 Saturday afternoon at Renaissance Coliseum.
The Braves (5-3) connected on 61.7 percent (29-of-47) from the field, a season high and the third-highest shooting percentage in school history. The effort included an 8-of-15 performance from 3-point range. Bradley also hit 15-of-20 from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Billikens (4-5) were held to 32.4 percent (23-of-71) from the floor, including 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from beyond the arc.
Ashley Hanlen added nine points apiece. Hanlen chipped in career highs of four assists and three steals, and Bradley tied her season high with four assists.
Despite collecting 22 offensive rebounds, the Billikens finished in a 37-37 stalemate with the Braves on the boards. Ayriell Robinson gathered a career-high five offensive rebounds among her six total. In addition, Saint Louis tied its season low with 12 turnovers.
Bradley's Katie Yohn scored a game-high 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point distance, and added four assists. Raisa Taylor tallied 10 points and a game-high five assists, while Latasha Hollingshed contributed nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Bradley jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led throughout. Consecutive 3-pointers by Hanlen and Bradley made it 8-6 Braves, but that was as close as the Billikens would come as Bradley built the lead to 38-22 at the 4:04 mark.
Saint Louis did manage to narrow the deficit to seven points with a 9-0 run. Lauren Woods snared an offensive rebound and scored. Bradley nailed a trey on an out-of-bounds play, and Jones finished the flurry with a free throw.
The teams traded baskets before Brooke Bisping's 3-pointer restored a double-digit BU lead, 43-33. Jones turned an offensive rebound into a layup, but two Hollingshed free throws gave the Braves a 45-35 halftime cushion.
Yohn's 3-pointer on Bradley's second possession of the second half sparked an 11-0 run that put the Braves in firm control. The lead did not dip below 15 the rest of the way.
The Billikens return to action Sunday, Dec. 12, against intrastate rival Missouri State. Tip time at Chaifetz Arena is 2 p.m.
