Fenton, Mo. -
Northwestern broke through for a goal in the sixth minute and eased to a victory over Saint Louis in field hockey action Sunday afternoon at the Anheuser-Busch Center. During the game, senior goalie Katherine Deem moved into SLU's career top 10 for saves with 183.
Drawing a penalty corner, Northwestern's Zoe Almquist scored the first of her three goals on the afternoon. The Billiken defense kept the Wildcats off the scoreboard but were unable to mount an offensive charge against the traditional Big Ten power. Billiken sophomore Alex LaBarge made eight saves in the first half, but the Wildcats added on three late scores to take a 4-0 margin.
The Billiken offense picked up in the second half and put six shots towards the Northwestern cage. Junior Nicole Kent had an apparent goal waved off, and freshman Megan Rogers had back-to-back shots turned aside. However, the Billikens were unable to put a shot into the net. Northwestern added six more scores over the final 35 minutes for the final score.
The Billikens are 0-6 on the season, while the Wildcats improve to 5-3. SLU is back in action Friday, Sept. 17, when it hosts UC Davis in a 1 p.m. game.
