Sept. 20, 2010

Final Stats

Fenton, Mo. - Despite a goal from Saint Louis junior Nicole Kent, the Billikens dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 19 Albany Monday afternoon at the Anheuser-Busch Center.

After Albany scored in the eighth minute, the Billikens answered on Kent's second goal of the season. The Billikens pushed the ball up the left side of the field, and Alex LaBarge forced the shot wide to the right. However, Albany tallied in the 28th minute and eventually took a 2-1 lead at intermission. The Billikens played well and earned three penalty corners while putting six shots on goal.

In the second half, Albany applied offensive pressure, but LaBarge denied the Great Danes with six saves. Albany slowly edged out its advantage in the second 35-minute session. LaBarge stopped an Albany penalty shot in the 56th minute to keep the Billikens close. The Great Danes eventually closed out the victory in the final minutes with two more scores. LaBarge was tremendous in the SLU cage and came up with a career-high 18 saves. The Billikens had 29 saves on the day, including three defensive stops, and eight others by Katherine Deem.

The Billikens (0-9) close out a six-game homestand Saturday against Pacific, at 1 p.m. The Great Danes improve to 5-2 on the season.
