Muncie, Ind. -
Ball State scored late in the first half and kept Saint Louis off the scoreboard 4-0 in field hockey action Sunday afternoon in Muncie, Ind. The loss keeps the Billikens searching for their first win of the season after four games, and Ball State improves to 3-1.
"We played one of our best games of the season," Billiken head coach Lauren Bruce said. "We generated some good chances but couldn't find the back of the net. It was unfortunate that we gave up two late goals."
Ball State launched shot after shot at SLU keeper Alex LaBarge, but the junior kept the contest scoreless. However, in the 31st minute, the Cardinals finally broke through when Devanny Kuhn scored on a penalty corner.
The Billikens attempted to equalize, but BSU's keepers kept the ball out of the Cardinals' cage. BSU added on to its lead and eventually closed out a 4-0 victory. Shelby Dittmar put two shots on goal, while three other Billikens had scoring opportunities turned aside. LaBarge made 12 saves for the Billikens.
The Billikens welcome Missouri State to Anheuser-Busch Center for a 1 p.m. match Friday, Sept. 10.
