Box Score PHILADELPHIA - Saint Louis turned away Temple challenges in sets
one and two, then cruised in the final frame to defeat the Owls 25-21, 25-14,
25-10 Sunday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at McGonigle Hall.
Andrea Beaty led all players with 18 kills and hit .375
(18-3-40), while Grace Bonoma and Carly Marcum tallied match
highs of 14 digs and seven blocks, respectively. Alyssa Deno had eight
kills and 10 digs, Beaty collected six blocks, Cassie Clarke had 31
assists and Andrea Bolt registered a match-high three service aces.
SLU (12-9, 8-3
A-10) dominated the match in all areas, earning advantages of .231 to -.020 in
hitting percentage, 54-40 in digs, 10-5 in blocks and 7-3 in service aces.
Set one was
tight throughout. Saint Louis used a 3-0 mini-run to take a 12-9 lead, but
Temple (7-17, 3-8 A-10) scored the next five points to forge a 14-12 advantage.
The Billikens tied it at 14, and the set was deadlocked at 16 and 17 before a
4-1 flurry resulted in a 21-18 SLU lead. The Owls drew no closer than two points
the rest of the way.
The second set
also was close until a late surge gave Saint Louis command. Leading 15-13, the
Billikens closed the set with a 10-1 outburst to claim a 2-0 cushion in the match.
In set three, SLU scored the first four points and never was challenged.
The Billikens travel to Washington, D.C., Nov. 4 to take on George
Washington. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. (CT).
