volleyball to a 3-1 (30-28, 25-22, 20-25, 25-14) Atlantic 10 Conference victory
at Fordham Friday night in Bronx, N.Y.
The
Billikens improve to 7-8, 3-2 in the A-10 with the victory, while Fordham dips
to 5-13, 2-2 in the league. SLU remains in the Northeast to face Rhode Island
Sunday, Oct. 9. First serve is scheduled for noon (CT).
The 17
kills for Beaty and Deno ties for the most by a Billiken this season. Emma Goldschmidt added 13 kills. Grace Bonoma led the squad with 12
digs, while Deno and Bolt added 10 apiece. Cassie
Clarke registered 51 assists.
The
Billikens had to rally to claim the first set, as Fordham used a 6-0 run to
take a 20-14 advantage. But SLU responded by taking the next five points to
make it 20-19. The teams traded points before Goldschmidt and Carly Marcum recorded kills to help the
Billikens claim a 30-28 advantage in set one.
SLU
utilized a 7-0 spurt early in set two take command. However, Fordham rallied to
tie it 17-17, and the score remained close before a pair of Fordham attacking
errors lifted the Billikens to the 25-22 win in set two.
Fordham
never trailed in the third set, winning it 25-20, but the Billikens clinched
the match with a convincing 25-14 win in set four. SLU jumped on top 6-2 on a
service ace by Ashley Gaillot and
never looked back. Deno sealed the victory with a kill on match point.
