ST. LOUIS - Jacy Bradley scored a season-high 18 points and added five
assists, and Lorreal Jones grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Saint Louis in a
70-55 loss to UT Martin Tuesday night at Chaifetz Arena.
Halee Castleman, making her first career start, collected a
career-high eight rebounds for the Billikens (1-4), who, for a fifth
consecutive game, out-rebounded their opponents (48-44). Jones and Desirae
Ball netted eight points apiece for SLU.
UT Martin (4-1)
was led by Jasmine Newsome and Heather Butler, who scored 25 and 21 points,
respectively. Newsome added nine assists and six rebounds. Beth Hawn snared 13
rebounds.
An 11-0 spurt
gave the Billikens a 17-9 lead with 12:19 left in the first half. Jones scored
six of the 11 points and Bradley supplied the other five, including a 3-pointer
that punctuated the run.
After UT Martin
responded with a 10-0 flurry to go on top 19-17, the Bills nudged ahead again
on another Bradley trey at the 7:31 mark. Those were the last points Saint
Louis would score the rest of the half, however, as the Skyhawks of the Ohio
Valley Conference finished on an 11-0 run to take a 30-20 halftime advantage.
The Billikens
trimmed the UTM lead to eight, 39-31, with 15:06 remaining, but that was as
close as SLU would get. The Skyhawks gradually built the advantage to 23 before
settling for the final margin.
Saint Louis hosts Murray State Saturday, Nov. 26. Tip time at Chaifetz
Arena is 2 p.m.
