Ind. - Andrea Beaty tallied a
match-high 13 kills for Saint Louis in the Billikens' 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 loss
to Ball State Saturday night at Worthen Arena.
Saint
Louis ended its season with a 15-13 record, while Ball State improved to 25-7.
Beaty
hit .333 (13-4-27) and added five digs and a match-high three blocks. Alyssa
Deno had eight kills and seven
digs, Grace Bonoma
collected 10 digs and Cassie Clarke
handed out 30 assists.
Three
straight Beaty kills gave SLU an 8-4 lead in set one, and the Billikens later
led 14-10. However, Ball State ran off four straight points to pull even and
went on to complete a 15-5 run to close the set.
After
falling behind 4-0 in set two, the Bills rallied for a 4-4 deadlock. Later, a
6-1 Saint Louis spurt that included a pair of Bonoma service aces turned a 12-9
deficit into a 15-13 lead.
The
Cardinals fought back to earn a 17-17 deadlock and eventually forged a 22-19
advantage. Two Deno kills helped the Billikens draw to within a point, 23-22,
before Ball State scored the final two points.
SLU earned a 9-5 cushion in set three behind two
kills apiece by Aleksandra Niemiec
and Carly Marcum and a pair of Ashley
Gaillot service aces. Ball State
inched its way back to tie the set at 15, 16 and 17. A Marcum kill put Saint
Louis on top 18-17, but the hosts rattled off eight consecutive points to
clinch the set and the match.
