Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Alyssa Deno had a match-high 21 kills
and Grace Bonoma collected a season-high
20 digs, but Saint Louis was defeated 25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 18-25, 15-9 by
George Washington Friday night in an Atlantic 10 Conference volleyball match.
Andrea Beaty had 14 kills,
while Carly Marcum and Carly Schumacher registered six and
five blocks, respectively, for the Billikens (12-10, 8-4 A-10). Cassie Clarke tallied 40 assists, nine
digs, four blocks and three service aces.
The opening set was tied 16 times before George Washington (18-8, 7-5
A-10) scored three straight points to take a 23-21 edge. The Billikens drew to
within a point twice before the Colonials claimed the set.
A 5-0 run gave SLU a 5-1 advantage in set two. George Washington used a
7-2 surge to grab an 8-7 lead, but Saint Louis scored 10 of the next 14 points
to go on top 17-12. GW whittled the lead to 22-20 before two blocks and a
service ace allowed SLU to win the set and tie the match.
In set three, George Washington used a 7-1 spurt to take a 21-14
cushion en route to the victory. Saint Louis turned a 7-7 deadlock into a 15-9
advantage and went on to capture set four.
The deciding set was tied on four occasions, the final time 6-6. GW
then embarked on a 9-3 run to close the set and the match.
The Billikens play at Charlotte Sunday, Nov. 6.
