Feb. 9, 2011

Box Score

PITTSBURGH - Lorreal Jones collected a game-high 13 rebounds, including five of Saint Louis' 15 offensive boards, to lead SLU in the Billikens' 67-41 Atlantic 10 Conference loss to Duquesne Wednesday at the A.J. Palumbo Center.

Jones registered her eighth double-figure rebounding total of the season. Lauren Woods scored 10 points, Ayriell Robinson added eight and Kathryn Hester netted six in her first action since suffering an injury against Saint Joseph's in the A-10 opener Jan. 8.

Duquesne (20-4, 7-2 A-10) received 16 points from Samantha Pollino, 13 from Kelly Britcher and 12 from Alex Gensler. Wumi Agunbiade and Orsi Szecsi grabbed eight and seven rebounds, respectively, and tied for game-high honors with five assists apiece.

Pollino scored seven points to stake Duquesne to a 7-2 lead, but the Billikens (7-17, 1-8 A-10) forged a 7-7 tie on two consecutive Robinson drives and a Mallory Eggert free throw.

Britcher's 3-pointer was answered by a Jones layup, and SLU trailed 10-9 with 13:19 left in the first half. But the Dukes outscored the Billikens 21-4 the rest of the half to take a 31-13 cushion to the locker room.

Saint Louis began the second half with a quick 9-1 flurry that trimmed the Duquesne advantage to 32-22. Jacy Bradley and Woods hit pull-up jumpers, Woods tallied a traditional three-point play and Robinson punctuated the run by sinking a 10-footer in the lane.

After Duquesne responded by scoring the next seven points for a 39-22 lead, SLU got two free throws from Bradley and buckets from Woods and Hester to make it a 41-28 game. However, that was as close as the Billikens would get.

The Billikens travel to Kingston, R.I., Sunday, Feb. 13, to face Rhode Island. Tip time is 11 a.m. (CT), and the game will be nationally televised on CBS College Sports.
