Redhawks Rally For 6-4 Win over Billikens

April 13, 2011

Final Stats

St. Louis - Southeast Missouri State rallied with two runs in the top of the nine to deal Saint Louis a 6-4 loss Wednesday at The Billiken Sports Center. The Bills overcame an early deficit and took a 4-2 lead in the sixth before SEMO cameback.

The Redhawks took the lead with two runs in the second inning, but SLU starter Damian Rivera kept SEMO in check over the next four frames. The Billikens then scored the next four runs of the game. SLU began the rally with one score in the fourth. Jerry Mancuso singled and moved up a base on Mike Levine's base hit. Cody Cotter hit a sharp single to right to put the Billikens on the board.

The Billikens surged into the lead with two runs in the fifth. Nick Becker led off the inning with a single, and Zach Miller was hit by a pitch. Steve Fernandez walked to load the bases. Becker then took advantage of a SEMO wild pitch to tie the game 2-2. Travis Parker's RBI groundout scored Miller as SLU took its first lead at 3-2.

The Bills built their lead to two with another score in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mike Levine reached on a bunt single to start the sequence. Cody Cotter put down a bunt that was intended to be a sac, but he used his speed to beat the tag for another single, his second hit of the night. Becker earned a free pass to put a Billiken on every base. Miller drove in SLU's fourth run with a grounder to score Levine.

However, the Redhawks cameback with two runs in the top of the seventh, and pushed across the game winning run in the ninth. Danny Brennan walked in the bottom of the ninth inning to bring the game-tying run to the plate, but the Billikens were unable to push across another run as the Redhawks held on for the win.

SLU slips to 20-14, while the Redhawks up their record to 17-13. The Billikens return to Atlantic 10 Conference action this weekend when they host No. 28 Charlotte for a three-game series starting Friday night.
