Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Snag Two Wins Apiece

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Billiken men's and women's swimming and diving teams each grabbed two victories at the IUPUI Quad. The men defeated IUPUI and Western Illinois, but lost to Xavier. The women beat Xavier and Western Illinois, but were bested by host school IUPUI.

The meet went well for the Billikens. Junior Taylor Streid continued to excel, notching her third consecutive win in the 200-yard individual medley. In Indianapolis, she touched the wall at 2:09.83, nearly three seconds faster than the opposition. Later in the meet, Streid won the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:07.96, securing a two-for-two day in the individual events.

Also leading the Bills was sophomore Lizzy Osterman. The school record holder in the 200-yard freestyle won the same event at IUPUI, coming in at 1:56.17. She also touched first in the 100-yard freestyle at 54.05.

Freshman Jalynn Gieseke also won an event, with her time of 2:14.68 in the 200-yard butterfly.

Also turning in big performances for the women's team were sophomore Christiana Eltiste (second on three-meter board), freshman Courntney Lagestee (third one-meter board) and sophomore Taylor Rogers (third in the 200 Free).

For the men, freshman Zack Billingsley was the top Billiken swimmer. He finished the 50-yard freestyle in 21.27 seconds, winning the race for the Bills. He later won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.49. Fellow freshman Patrick May and Justin Pasquesi also had good meets. May finished third in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events, while Pasquesi finished second in the 200-yard freestyle and third in the 500-yard freestyle.

Senior diver Chad Carmichael finished third on the three-meter and senior Billy Hrabovsky finished third on the one-meter.

The Bills were to swim in the Lindenwood Quad tomorrow, Jan. 21, but due to inclement weather, had to withdraw from the meet. The squad will return to action on Jan. 28, when they will take on Eastern Illinois and Evansville at home for Senior Night. Events begin at 1 p.m.
