BRONX, N.Y. - Janisha Gearlds tied her career high with 19 points, including 12
in the second half and overtime, but Fordham pulled out a 64-61 overtime
victory over Saint Louis Sunday afternoon at Rose Hill Gym.
The loss drops the Billikens to 10-19 overall and 4-10 in the Atlantic 10
Conference. SLU will be the No. 11 seed in next weekend's A-10 Championship and
will take on No. 6 Charlotte at 6:30 p.m. (CT).
Trailing 41-23, the Billikens outscored the Rams (12-17, 3-11 A-10) 30-12
the rest of regulation to send the game into an extra session tied at 53. SLU
scored on 14 of 20 possessions during the spurt.
In overtime, Saint Louis led 61-57 after Gearlds drove for a layup. But
Fordham tallied the final seven points to claim the victory.
Desirae Ball had 12 points and tied her career high with six rebounds. Jenna Mueller led all players with a career-high nine rebounds, while Mallory Eggert collected seven boards to go with eight points. Lorreal Jones netted nine points, and Gearlds had a game-high five assists. Morgan Johnson tied her career high with four assists.
Fordham's Becky Peters scored a game-high 20 points, followed by Arielle
Collins (5-of-9 from 3-point range) with 15, Charlotte Stoddart with 12 and
Emily Tapio with 10.
Fordham, which led the entire first half, pulled out to a 12-3 lead. The
Rams led 23-12 when the Billikens went on a 6-0 run, with two buckets by Gearlds and another by Eggert, to make it 23-18 Fordham.
However, the Rams closed the half with an 8-3 spurt to lead 31-21 at the break.
The Rams began the second half with a 10-2 run
before the Billikens began their comeback.
