Billikens Topped 6-0 at No. 16 Cal

Box Score

BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 16 California broke up a 2-0 game with four second-half tallies in a 6-0 field hockey victory against Saint Louis Monday afternoon.

It was the final game of a three-game, season opening road trip in California for the Billikens, who dip to 0-3. Cal improves to 1-1.

Cal scored in the 11th and 30th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The deficit could have been much worse, but the Billikens fought off an additional 12 shots in the opening stanza, forcing goalie Megan Depew-Brady to make four saves.

The second half was all Cal, getting goals at 39:28, 57:39, 59:03 and 64:56 for the 6-0 final. Laken Gehris had a scoring opportunity for the Billikens in the second half, but her chance was stopped by the Cal keeper.

SLU resumes play next weekend against Robert Morris (Sunday, Sept. 2) and Appalachian State (Monday, Sept. 3). Both matches take place in Louisville, Ky.
