Box Score BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 16 California broke up a 2-0
game with four second-half tallies in a 6-0 field hockey victory against Saint
Louis Monday afternoon.
It was the
final game of a three-game, season opening road trip in California for the Billikens,
who dip to 0-3. Cal improves to 1-1.
Cal
scored in the 11th and 30th minutes to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The
deficit could have been much worse, but the Billikens fought off an additional
12 shots in the opening stanza, forcing goalie Megan Depew-Brady to make four saves.
The
second half was all Cal, getting goals at 39:28, 57:39, 59:03 and 64:56 for the
6-0 final. Laken Gehris had a
scoring opportunity for the Billikens in the second half, but her chance was
stopped by the Cal keeper.
SLU
resumes play next weekend against Robert Morris (Sunday, Sept. 2) and
Appalachian State (Monday, Sept. 3). Both matches take place in Louisville, Ky.
