ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis swimming and diving senior Taylor Streid is one of eight student-athletes nominated by the Atlantic 10 Conference for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award.
The NCAA established the Woman of the Year Award in 1991 to celebrate the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics. Now in its 22nd year, the award is unique because it recognizes not only the athletics achievements of outstanding young women, but also their academic achievements, community service and leadership.
A school record holder and four-time team MVP, Streid earned second and third team All-Conference honors during her career. She ranks in the Top 10 in several events in Billiken history and contributed to five SLU relay records that were set during the 2013 A-10 Championships.
A two-time A-10 All-Academic selection that is graduating Magna Cum Laude earned straight As in five of her seven collegiate semesters. A seven-time Blue-Scholar Billiken and six-time Dean's List member, she has earned a spot on the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her semesters.
Streid is also active in leadership and community service roles, working with 1,2,3 You & me Pre-School for eight years. She also volunteered time with Kid Enjoy Exercise Now (KEEN), Make a Difference Day, Showers of Service and the Special Olympics. She served as the Vice President of Programming on the Physical Therapy Student Council and was a Physical Therapy Student Ambassador. Streid also was a Laboratory Teacher's Assistant in Biology.
The A-10's Council of Senior Woman Administrators will choose one or two representatives from the eight candidates to represent the Atlantic 10 as the league's Woman of the Year nominee. The Conference may choose two if one of the nominees is an international student or a minority.
NCAA member institutions from all three divisions nominated their own woman of the year. To be eligible, these women must have competed and earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport and must have completed eligibility in their primary sport.
