Billikens Back Home for Pair of A-10 Battles

COMING UP – Saint Louis women's soccer (6-7, 1-2 Atlantic 10) is on the Robert R. Hermann Stadium home pitch for two Atlantic 10 Conference weekend games. The Billikens host Fordham (6-6-1, 0-2-1) Friday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m., with the SLU-Duquesne men's match to follow at 8 p.m. Conference leader and two-time defending A-10 tournament champion La Salle (7-4-2, 3-0) comes to town Sunday, Oct. 19, for an 11 a.m. first whistle. The Saint Louis men host Massachusetts at 2 p.m.

TICKET INFORMATION – Tickets for all women's soccer home games at Robert R. Hermann Stadium can be purchased at the gate, by phone at (314) 977-4SLU or online at www.slubillikens.com. Prices for single-game tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Groups of 20 or more receive discounted tickets for $4 apiece. Students with a valid SLU ID card receive free admission. Fans will gain admission to both games Friday, and again on Sunday, with the purchase of one ticket each day.

FOLLOWING THE ACTION – Free live statistics and a free live video stream are available for Friday's game; there will be live stats only for Sunday's contest. The links are located on the home page of Saint Louis' official athletics website, www.SLUBillikens.com, in the schedule section just below the lead stories, as well as on the women's soccer schedule page.

BILLIKENS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER SUNDAY – SLU's contest against La Salle has been designated as the “Kicks Against Breast Cancer” game. The Billikens will wear pink jerseys which will be auctioned off during the game, with all proceeds donated to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research. At halftime, SLU junior forward Livi Logan-Wood, whose mother, Katherine, died of breast cancer, will address the crowd. Last year's pink jersey auction raised more than $1,200.

BILLIKEN LEADERS – Twelve different Saint Louis players have recorded at least one point, and nine of those players have collected at least one goal. Kirsten Clemens tops the scoring chart with 16 points (6G, 4A) and is followed closely by Lindsay Elking and Cristina Rodriguez with 12 points (4G, 4A) apiece. Livi Logan-Wood (4G, 1A) has nine points, Danielle Tolmais (2G, 4A) has eight points, and Tori Marshall (3G) has six points. Goalkeeper Hanna Benben carries a 1.68 goals against average and has made 60 saves. The Billikens have out-shot their opponents 215-168 overall and 114-84 in shots on goal.

SLU EARNS WEEKEND ROAD SPLIT WITH SUNDAY COMEBACK – The Billikens collected their first conference win of the season Oct. 12, rallying to defeat Saint Joseph's 3-2 in Philadelphia. After an early goal by Cristina Rodriguez (Kirsten Clemens assist) put SLU on top, Saint Joseph's took a 2-1 lead into halftime. But Danielle Tolmais (Rodriguez assist) scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute, and Michelle Schwarz (Danielle Manning assist) knocked in the game winner – her first career goal – in the 74th minute. Hanna Benben made six saves. Two days earlier in Fairfax, Va., Rodriguez (Clemens assist) scored for the Bills in a 2-1 loss to George Mason.

BILLS' ATTACK PRODUCING RESULTS – With 26 goals this season, Saint Louis has easily surpassed last season's total of 19 ... the Billikens' 26 goals are the most scored by a SLU team through the first 13 games of a season since the 2006 squad netted 29 goals … SLU has eight multi-goal games so far this season, equaling the number the Billikens produced the past two seasons combined. The Bills tallied four goals in three of those outings, marking the first time since 2006 that the team has produced three four-goal games … Kirsten Clemens has a team-high six goals, marking the first time since 2008 that a Billiken has scored that many in a season ... SLU has three players with a double-digit point total (Clemens 16, Lindsay Elking 12, Cristina Rodriguez 12) for the first time since 2009.

BILLIKENS IN THE NATIONAL STATISTICS – Saint Louis ranks 28th in the nation in assists per game (2.08), 40th in points per game (6.08) and 47th in goals per game (2.0).

SLU IN THE A-10 STATISTICS – In the most recent Atlantic 10 Conference statistics report, the Billikens lead the league in corner kicks per game (6.15); are second in points per game (6.08) and tied for second in goals per game (2.00) and assists per game (2.08); and rank third in shots per game (16.54). Clemens is tied with Lindsay Elking, Danielle Tolmais and Cristina Rodriguez for ninth in assists per game (0.31).

SCOUTING FORDHAM – The Rams are among the A-10's top defensive teams, ranking third with a 1.13 goals against average. Fordham allowed just one goal in each of its first three conference games but walked away with a tie and two losses. However, one of those defeats came on the road against league leader La Salle. Senior midfielder/defender Jessica Widmann leads the team in goals (four), assists (four) and points (12). Senior forward Kate McDonnell has nine points (3G, 3A), followed by junior midfielder/defender Ivana Lahcanski with seven points (3G, 1A). Senior goalkeeper Ally White carries a 0.98 GAA and has registered two shutouts. The SLU-Fordham series is tied 2-2, with each team posting a 2-0 record on its home field. The Billikens won the most recent meeting, 2-0 in 2011.

SCOUTING LA SALLE – The Explorers, who play at Dayton Friday night before coming to St. Louis, have won three straight and four of their last five games. La Salle outscored its first three A-10 opponents 7-1. The Explorers feature a trio of seniors who were tabbed first-team All-Conference a year ago in forward Kelsey Haycook, midfielder Maryam Huseini and goalkeeper Jessica Wiggins. Haycook (11G, 3A for 25 points), who also garnered All-Region honors in 2013, leads the A-10 in goals per game (15th nationally) and points per game (16th nationally) and ranks second in game-winning goals (four, 17th nationally). Huseini leads the team with six assists and is fifth in the conference in assists per game. Wiggins leads the league in saves per game (5.75) while owning a 1.32 GAA, an .812 save percentage and four shutouts. Junior midfielder/forward Jessika Kagan (5G, 3A) and freshman forward Kristin Haugstad (3G, 4A) also figure prominently in the La Salle attack. The Billikens lead the Explorers 2-1-1 in the all-time series. La Salle captured the most recent meeting, 4-0 in 2011.

BILLIKENS PICKED FOURTH IN A-10 PRESEASON POLL; WRIGHT HONORED – Saint Louis was tabbed for a fourth-place finish in the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference standings in the A-10 head coaches' preseason poll. Senior defender Mary Wright was selected to the preseason All-Conference team.
