Bills Strike Quickly After Weather Delay, Defeat Western Illinois 3-1

Box Score

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis scored three goals in a 12-minute span following a long weather delay and downed Western Illinois 3-1 Friday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.

The Billikens improved to 3-2, while Western Illinois fell to 1-4.

Western Illinois grabbed an early lead as Sarah Wright intercepted a Saint Louis clearance in the box and scored from eight yards out at the 2:33 mark. It was Wright's first goal of the season.

Lightning in the area caused a stoppage of play in the 19th minute. Following a delay of approximately two hours and 45 minutes, the Billikens went on the attack.

Livi Logan-Wood scored the equalizer, her first goal of the season, at 22:27. Following a corner kick, Logan-Wood found the target from seven yards away with an assist from Lindsay Elking.

It didn't take long for SLU to tally what proved to be the game winner. Kirsten Clemens gathered the rebound when Danielle Tolmais' header was stopped by the WIU goalkeeper. Clemens converted for her team-leading fourth goal of the year, with Tolmais notching an assist.

Tori Marshall made it 3-1 at 34:41, scoring her third goal in as many games. Marshall rifled a shot from the right side across the field and into the left side of the net. Molly Ream and Cristina Rodriguez were credited with assists.

Clemens and Tolmais registered a game-high six shots apiece, with five of Clemens' attempts on frame. Hanna Benben recorded four saves. The Billikens out-shot the Leathernecks 23-13 and earned a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Billikens are back in action on their home pitch Sunday, hosting Northwestern at 1 p.m.
