THE BASICS

--Saint Louis finished the first half on a 22-5 run to take a 15-point halftime lead, and the Billikens went on to defeat Alabama A&M 91-60 Friday night at T.M. Elmore Gym.

--SLU improved to 8-1 with the victory, tying the 1998-99 Billikens for the best nine-game start in program history. Alabama A&M of the Southwestern Athletic Conference fell to 1-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED

--Jenny Vliet connected twice from beyond the arc in the first quarter to help stake Saint Louis to a 12-5 lead.

--However, Alabama A&M scored on six of its last seven first-quarter possessions in an 11-4 run that tied it at 16 after one.

--The Lady Bulldogs extended the run to 14-4 and took a 19-16 lead with a trey on their initial second-quarter possession.

--Trailing 24-22, the Billikens embarked on a 22-5 spurt to conclude the first half with a 44-29 cushion. Jackie Kemph scored 13 of her team-high 17 points in the second stanza, including a 3-pointer and a driving layup on SLU's final two possessions.

--Saint Louis was never challenged in the second half. Two Denisha Womack free throws midway through the third quarter gave the Bills their first lead of more than 20 points, 56-35, and it was 67-42 heading to the fourth.

--The final score was SLU's largest lead of the game.

BILLIKEN NOTABLES

--The Billikens shot 50 percent (36-of-72), the second time this season they have hit that mark.

--SLU reached the 90-point mark for the first time since defeating Fordham 90-70 on Feb. 11, 2007.

--The Bills had 24 assists, one shy of their season high, and committed a season-low eight turnovers.

--Saint Louis earned a 41-30 advantage on the boards, including a season-high-tying 15 offensive rebounds.

--Jackie Kemph was 7-of-11 from the field and added a game-high seven assists.

--Maddison Gits scored a career-high 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Gits also tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds, and her three assists tied a career high.

--Jordyn Frantz tallied a career-high 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Frantz also turned in career highs of four assists and three rebounds.

--Denisha Womack contributed 10 points, including a 6-of-6 performance from the free throw line. Womack's seven rebounds included five on the offensive glass, tying the SLU season high, and she equaled her career high with two steals.

--Olivia Jakubicek tied Gits and Womack with seven rebounds, including a season-high-tying four on the offensive end.

--Other career highs set were Tara Dusharm (six points, tied), Aaliyah Covington (four rebounds) and Jasmin Samz (three assists, tied).

--Janie Myles, 18 points, six rebounds; Nashaye Sutton, 12 points; Ebony Johnson, 12 points; Jaylan Snowden, four assists.

UP NEXT

The Billikens travel to New Orleans to participate in the Tulane Invitational Presented by Embassy Suites. SLU takes on Cleveland State Sunday, Dec. 20, at 3 p.m., while Tulane and UNC Greensboro square off at 5 p.m. The consolation game (3 p.m.) and championship game (5 p.m.) are slated for Monday.
