Ninth Inning Rally Propels Billikens to First Win

Box Score

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis freshman RHP Connor Lehmann threw six shutout innings in his first collegiate appearance as the Billikens topped Kansas State 7-4. With the win, SLU rises to 1-3 on the year. Sophomore Robert Plohr (1-0) earned the win.

Lehmann got the start against the Wildcats and was effective, throwing six shutout innings with three hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

The Billikens struck first, plating Trent Leimkuehler on a Kansas State error in the seventh inning.

The Wildcats tied the game in the eighth on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 1-1 in the final frame.

In the ninth, Saint Louis erupted for six runs, capitalizing on six hits and two Kansas State errors. The Wildcats mounted a rally of their own in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on four hits. However, the Billikens held on for their first win of the season.

Offensively, the Saint Louis outfield paced the Billikens at the plate. Centerfielder Leimkuehler had a team-leading three hits (in five at bats), scoring twice and driving in a run. Leftfielder Michael Bozarth was 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Rightfielder Danny Murphy was 2-5 with a run scored.

Next up for Saint Louis is the COX Diamond Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. The Billikens will take on Troy (Feb. 20), Southern Mississippi (Feb. 21) and North Florida (Feb.22).
