Box Score ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis baseball was defeated by Saint Joseph's, 6-3, in game one of the final series of the season. The loss drops the Billikens to 33-19 overall and 14-8 in Atlantic 10 games. Clay Smith (8-3) was tabbed with the loss.
The Billikens jumped out early with back-to-back RBI singles from Alex King and Michael Bozarth in the second.
Saint Joseph's responded with an RBI single in the third to cut the Billiken lead to 2-1.
The Hawks then plated five runs in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead.
Bozarth ripped a home run down the left field line with two outs in the top of the ninth, but SLU was unable to rally and fell 6-3.
Bozarth was SLU's top performer at the dish, going 2-5 with a home run, a run scored and two RBIs. King was 2-4 with an RBI. Mike Vigliarolo drew a walk in the first to extend his conference-leading on-base streak to 40 games.
Game two of the three game series is set for tomorrow, May 15 at 2 p.m. (CT).
