THE BASICS
--Jackie Kemph and Denisha Womack registered double-doubles to lead Saint Louis to an 84-81 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Duquesne, the Billikens' 20th win of the season, Thursday night at Chaifetz Arena.
--The Billikens (20-6, 10-3 A-10) added to their school records for total victories and conference victories and moved into a third-place tie in the A-10 with St. Bonaventure.
--Duquesne, which came in ranked 23rd in the USA Today Coaches' Poll and receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25, slipped to 23-3, 11-2. The loss snapped the Dukes' seven-game winning streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
--Duquesne held a pair of early two-point leads, but a Denisha Womack 3-pointer gave Saint Louis the lead for good, 5-4.
--Womack's triple ignited a 19-6 run, featuring five different scorers, that put the Billikens in front 21-10 late in the first quarter. Duquesne trimmed the lead to 21-15 by the end of the period.
--The Dukes cut the margin to three points on three occasions in the second quarter, the final time 27-24 with 6:03 left. The Billikens answered with eight straight points to match their largest first-half lead, 35-24, at the 3:16 mark.
--Duquesne responded with an 8-2 spurt to make it a 37-32 game at intermission.
--In the third quarter, Duquesne chipped away and pulled to within a point four times. The Billikens responded with points on each occasion, however, to maintain the upper hand, and they led 65-60 after three.
--Jamesia Price made two free throws on SLU's initial fourth-quarter possession for a seven-point advantage, the Bills' largest lead of the final stanza.
--Duquesne whittled the margin to two points and had two possessions with a chance to tie or take the lead, but the Dukes failed to capitalize. Jenny Vliet then hit a tough shot to give Saint Louis a 78-74 edge.
--A Duquesne 3-pointer with 47 seconds left made it 79-77 SLU. Following a timeout, Price took a pass from Kemph for a layup and a four-point lead with 18 seconds remaining.
--Kemph answered a Duquesne free throw with two of her own to give SLU an 83-78 lead with eight seconds to go. The Dukes connected for a 3-pointer, and after Kemph made one of two from the stripe, a desperation 3-pointer was off the mark.
