OVERVIEW
Saint Louis fell to 0-3 on the year with a pair of losses to wrap up the Michigan Challenge. Senior Danielle Rygelski set a new personal best with 33 kills in the Miami (Ohio) match. She also tallied 22 digs in the match, and is the first Billiken to record 30+ kills and 20+ digs in a single match since Aida Antanaviciute notched 30 kills and 20 digs against SMS (now Missouri State) in 2004. Rygelski earned All-Tournament plaudits for her efforts.
UNI MATCH
- Danielle Rygelski recorded five kills in the first set of the match, but SLU fell 20-25.
- In the second set, Rygelski had three kills, but setter Camila Rivas had two kills on four attacks as SLU dropped set two 14-25.
- Rygelski tallied seven kills in the third set, leading all attackers, but UNI completed the sweep 17-25.
- Rivas compiled her first career double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs.
- Mackenzie Long led the Billikens with 12 digs.
MIAMI MATCH
- Rygelski continued to excel in the Miami match, with six kills and seven digs in the opening set. SLU fell 17-25.
- The second set saw Rygelski notch seven more kills, as SLU dropped the second set 21-25.
- Rygelski had six kills and nine digs in the third set, leading SLU to a 25-23 win.
- Building on her success, Rygelski recorded 11 kills in the fourth set, helping the Billikens capture the set 28-26.
- In the deciding set, Maryann Ejele entered to record three kills on four attacks, but the Bills lost the frame 11-15.
- Rygelski finished the match with 33 kills, 22 digs and a .380 attack percentage.
- Taylor Paulson also was strong at the net, recording 10 kills with a .308 attack percentage.
- Katia Haak notched five kills on 11 attacks with one error for a .364 attack percentage.
- Ashley Gagen and Camila Rivas split setter duties with Gagen corraling a career-best 35 assists and Rivas with 21 assists.
