THE BASICS

•Saint Louis' offense came to life in a big way Wednesday afternoon as the Billikens swept Dayton 8-2, 8-1 in an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader at the Billiken Sports Center.

•SLU improved to 14-13 overall and 3-2 in the A-10.

•Dayton fell to 15-15, 3-2.

GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED

•Saint Louis set the tone in the bottom of the first inning when Allie Macfarlane hit her seventh home run of the season, a three-run shot, to give the Billikens a 3-0 lead.

•The Bills doubled the margin in the second on Mackenzie Peter's two-out, three-run double.

Alex Nickel made it 7-0 in the third with a two-out RBI single.

•Dayton got on the board with two runs in the fifth.

•SLU completed the scoring in the sixth when Macfarlane singled in a run with two away.

GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES

Maddie Baalman was sharp in the circle in picking up her sixth win. Baalman struck out four and allowed only six hits and one walk.

•Nickel added a double for a two-hit game.

Alyssa Tarquinio and Josie Knesel had a single apiece.

GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED

•The Billikens enjoyed another big first inning, this time scoring five times. Macfarlane drew a bases-loaded walk, Tarquinio drilled a two-run single, Hailey Weavers delivered an RBI double, and Mackenzie Lawson finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

•Dayton got one of the runs back in the second.

•Saint Louis plated two runs in the fourth. Lawson scored on a throwing error after stealing third, and Knesel crossed the plate on another throwing error.

•SLU added an insurance tally in the sixth as Knesel scored on a double-steal attempt.

GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES

Kaylea Chappelle tossed a five-hitter to record her fifth victory of the season. Chappelle struck out one and walked only two.

•Nickel collected three singles.

•Knesel registered a double and a single.

•Peter, Macfarlane and Emma Buckles contributed a single apiece.

UP NEXT

•The Billikens travel to Rhode Island for a three-game A-10 series Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2.
