THE BASICS
•Saint Louis completed a three-game series sweep of Atlantic 10 Conference opponent George Mason Sunday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center, winning the continuation of Saturday's suspended game 8-0 in six innings and posting a 2-1 victory in eight innings in the finale.
•The Billikens are now 21-22 overall and 10-10 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. George Mason slipped to 20-29, 11-9.
GAME 1 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•Saturday, Saint Louis broke the ice with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. A squeeze bunt by Mackenzie Lawson plated the first run, the second run scored on an error, and Alyssa Tarquinio's sacrifice fly made it 3-0.
•The game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth. When it resumed Sunday, the Billikens scored three runs in that frame on a Josie Knesel RBI single and Allie Macfarlane's two-run single.
•SLU tacked on a run in the fifth on Alex Nickel's RBI single.
•The Bills won it by run rule in the sixth on an RBI double off the bat of Taylor Meeks.
GAME 1 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Maddie Baalman tossed her first career one-hitter and picked up her fourth shutout of the season. Baalman struck out six and walked only two.
•Nickel was 3-for-3 with a triple and a walk.
•Emma Buckles notched a single.
•Knesel had a career-high three stolen bases.
GAME 2 – HOW IT HAPPENED
•George Mason grabbed a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the second.
•The Billikens tallied the equalizer in the third on Lawson's bases-loaded walk with two outs.
•Saint Louis came to bat in the bottom of the eighth with just a few minutes remaining before the predetermined cutoff time of 6 p.m.
•Knesel singled with one out and was forced at second by Lawson. Macfarlane – who would have been the final batter of the game regardless of the outcome of her at-bat – lined a double to left-center, and Lawson scored when the throw from the outfield got away.
GAME 2 – BILLIKEN NOTABLES
•Starting pitcher Kaylea Chappelle did not figure in the decision but was outstanding. Chappelle went seven innings, yielded no earned runs, scattered six hits and walked only one.
•Baalman (13-11) pitched a 1-2-3 eighth to register the victory, giving her all three wins in the series.
•Macfarlane added a single for a two-hit game.
•Nickel, Knesel and Buckles all singled.
