THE BASICS
• Saint Louis posted a .364 attack percentage, its best mark of the season in league play, and defeated Rhode Island 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) Friday night at Chaifetz Pavilion.
• SLU improved to 3-16 overall and 2-5 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Rhode Island fell to 7-11, 1-5.
FIRST SET
Saint Louis, which hit .486 for the set, jumped out to a 7-0 lead and was never seriously challenged. Rhode Island drew to within five points on six occasions, but that was as close as the Rams would get.
SECOND SET
After Rhode Island grabbed a 7-4 lead, SLU used a 7-2 run to go in front 11-9. The Rams tied it at 11, but the Billikens tallied six of the next eight points for a 17-13 advantage. The margin remained between three and five points down the stretch.
THIRD SET
Following the seventh deadlock of the set at 10-10, Saint Louis took command with a 9-0 spurt. Rhode Island drew no closer than six the rest of the way.
NOTABLE
• The Billikens' 50 kills and 49 assists were their season highs for a three-set match.
• Saint Louis featured a balanced attack, with four players recording between seven and 12 kills.
• Maya Taylor had a match-high 12 kills and no errors. Taylor hit .400 (12-0-30).
• Giovanna Charles turned in 11 kills, and she also did not commit an error. Charles registered a season-best .478 attack percentage (11-0-23).
• Isabelle Walsh contributed 11 kills and six digs.
• Lauren Mershon led all players with a .545 attack percentage (7-1-11).
• Kennedy Cordia's 43 assists were her season high in a three-set match. Cordia added 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the year, five of which have come in A-10 play.
• Cayce Chaykowsky had a match-high 14 digs.
• Sien Gallop collected 11 digs.
