Harbison Earns USBWA National Honor

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University freshman guard Ciaja Harbison has been named national Freshman of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association for her role in two Billiken victories last week.

 

This is the first USBWA award for a Saint Louis women's basketball player.

 

Monday, Harbison was selected Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week for an eighth time. She led the Billikens in scoring (18.5 ppg), field goal percentage (.500), free throw percentage (.857), assists (4.0 apg) and steals (2.5 spg) in wins over George Mason and George Washington last week. Harbison also was 3-of-6 from 3-point range and averaged 5.0 rebounds.

 

Harbison enjoyed a big second half in both games. She scored all 16 of her points in the second half vs. George Mason and 19 of her game-high 21 points following intermission vs. George Washington, helping SLU overcome a halftime deficit in both games.

 

Harbison had a game-high six assists vs. George Mason. She registered career highs of eight rebounds and three 3-pointers and tied the team high with three steals in the George Washington game.

 

Harbison leads Saint Louis and ranks fourth in the A-10 with 15.3 points per game. She is second in the league in assists (4.5 apg), fourth in free throw percentage (.833) and minutes (36.8 mpg), and eighth in field goal percentage (.437).

 

Following a game at Fordham Wednesday, Feb. 6, Saint Louis welcomes La Salle to Chaifetz Arena Sunday, Feb. 10, for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
