12/7/2021 11:57:00 AM

Saint Louis opened its indoor track and field season this past weekend to positive results at the Titan First Chance meet at Illinois Wesleyan and the John Coughlan Invite at Illinois State.

It was the first indoor competitions for the Billikens since the 2020 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, as last year's indoor campaign was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One school record was surpassed and another was met on Saturday. Angelina White set a new school record in the weight throw with a heave of 16.19 meters. Myles Gascon matched his school record in the 60 meters with a time of 6.94.

Numerous Billikens finished first in their respective events at the Coughlan Invite. Theresa Lampe won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.20, while Savannah Lesher led the way in the mile with a time of 5:24.06. Jordan Monson was the winner in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:34.82.

Katie Wissing took home the individual crowns in both the long jump (5.47 meters) and the triple jump (11.96 meters).

Margaret O'Brien led a large SLU contingent in the 3,000 meters at the Titan First Chance meet, finishing first with a time of 10:49.02, barely edging teammate Carly Sear (10:49:25).

On the men's side, Danny Hopkins was the top finisher in the 400 meters with a time of 50.77. Jackson Higley crossed first in the 1,000 meters (2:29.96). Jayden Kouadio was the winner in the triple jump with a mark of 13.85 meters.

At the Titan First Chance meet, Patrick Donovan led the way in the 1,000 meters with a first-place finish of 8:44.05.

The Billikens are in action again on Friday, Dec. 10, when they travel to Bloomington, Indiana, for the Hoosier Open.
