Verdico Wins Bronze in 200 Breast on Final Day of A-10 Championships

GENEVA, OhioDaniel Verdico claimed the bronze medal in the 200 breast for Saint Louis Saturday on the final day of the Atlantic 10 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Spire Institute.
 
Verdico, who placed fifth in the 100 breast on Friday, clocked a 2:01.09. He was joined in the championship final by Jeddrick Gamilla, who finished seventh in 2:03.42. Preston Waldusky touched second (2:03.52) in the consolation final to secure 10th place overall.
 
For the women's team, Natalie Daniel placed eighth in the 100 free in 51.09. Daniel registered a school-record 51.03 in the prelims, breaking the previous mark of 51.06 she shared with Meg Baudendistel.
 
Jack Locke broke two school records while finishing 11th in the men's 1650 free. Locke covered the first 1000 yards in 9:35.72, setting the school standard for that distance, and finished with an all-time Billiken best of 15:55.99 for 1650. Jeremy Goodison (9:36.60 in the 1000, 15:57.99 in the 1650) held both records prior to Locke's performance.
 
Also scoring in individual events for Saint Louis were Janssen Gamilla, 10th in the men's 200 fly (1:50.35); Bri Hodgkins, 14th in the women's 200 fly (2:05.29); Kade Johnson, 15th in the 1650 free (16:14.20); and Joe Feder, 15th in the men's 200 back (1:51.69).
 
The women's 400 free relay team of Daniel, Carly McKeon, Sophie Kishish and Emily Smith finished sixth in 3:25.75. Wyatt Johnson, Philip Costello, Janssen Gamilla and Nick Soltys comprised the men's 400 free relay quartet that placed eighth in 3:04.65.
 
Smith broke her own school record in a 100 IM time trial, covering the route in 58.03. The previous mark was 58.54.
