ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University baseball interim head coach
Miles Miller announced the addition of David Olson as the program's hitting coach, rounding out the Billikens' coaching staff ahead of the 2026 season.
Olson brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience to SLU, with a background spanning the junior college, NAIA and NCAA Division I levels. He most recently completed his 10th season at Bellevue College, where he serves as co-head coach and offensive coordinator.
"I have respected David as a coach for a long time," said Miller. "He has a proven record of development and his knowledge and passion for the game are exactly what we were looking for. He is ready to run our offense at a high level right away and he is a welcome addition to our coaching staff."
In 2023, Olson helped lead the Bulldogs to a North Region title and was named North Region Coach of the Year. He has overseen Bellevue's offense since 2018, coaching hitters, running the offense from the third base box and working extensively with infielders as a defensive specialist. Under his direction, Bellevue has earned multiple NWAC Championship Tournament appearances and consistently ranked among the league's top offensive teams.
Olson also assists with the upkeep of Courter Field, widely regarded as one of the premier natural grass facilities in the region, and serves as Bellevue College's athletic operations supervisor, overseeing event management and facilities staff. In addition, he has been a presenter at ABCA Regional Barnstormer Clinics and a guest on numerous baseball-focused podcasts.
Prior to Bellevue, Olson spent the 2014-15 season as the volunteer assistant coach at Campbell University, an NCAA Division I program in the Big South Conference. While at Campbell, he coached the outfield, assisted with hitting instruction and helped guide the Camels to a 32-25 record and a conference tournament berth. The team hit .297 with a .406 slugging percentage and a .364 on-base percentage. Olson also coached future major leaguer Cedric Mullins and NCAA All-American Cole Hallum.
Olson began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of the Cumberlands while earning his Master of Arts in Teaching. He worked with corner infielders and hitters, coached base running and led West Coast recruiting efforts, helping the program to a 31-23 record and a Mid-South Conference tournament appearance in 2014.
A standout player prior to his coaching career, Olson played collegiately at Washington State, Tacoma Community College and Campbell University. At Campbell, he helped lead the program to two 40-win seasons, including a 49-win campaign in 2013. He earned Second Team All-Big South and College Sports Madness All-Big South First Team honors in both 2012 and 2013 and was one of 12 finalists for the NCAA Division I John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award in 2013. Olson was also named a Capital One Second Team Academic All-American.
Olson earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Campbell University and his master's degree from the University of the Cumberlands.
