The USF Bulls swept a Conference USA doubleheader from the Saint Louis Billikens on Saturday afternoon at The Billiken Sports Center. Game scores were 7-0 and 12-1.
The Bulls tallied the first run of the game in the third inning. Christie Chapman singled and took third on a hit by Carmela Liwag. Chapman then scored on a wild pitch. pitch. The Billikens had a chance to tie in the bottom half of the frame. Jody Herbert led off with a single, and moved to second on Adrienne May's sacrifice bunt. However, the Bills were unable to push a run across. USF added onto its lead with a single tally in the fourth. Pitcher Bree Spence doubled to start the inning, and Chapman drove in the run with a single. In the Billikens' half of the inning, Logan Justice singled up the middle, and Beth Schomaker was hit by a pitch, but USF kept the Bills off the board. The Bulls sealed the win with two home runs in the sixth. Chapman launched a two-run homer to left, and Carmela Liwag and Tiffany Stewart added solo shots. Spence picked up her 18th win of the season for the Bulls.
The Bulls jumped on top early in game two with three runs in each of the first two innings. Krista Holle doubled with the bases loaded to stake USF to a 3-0 lead. In the second, the Bulls got a two-run double from Tiffany Stewart and an RBI single from Holle to push out to a 6-0 lead. The Billikens got a run back in the bottom of the second on three straight singles. Jody Herbert reached safely on a hit. Adrienne May's punched a ball up the middle to plate Thurow with SLU's first run. USF sealed the win in the sixth inning.
The Billikens fall to 18-30-1 overall, 4-19 in C-USA. The Bulls improve to 37-24, 14-9 in conference. The teams will play a single game on Sunday at noon.
