Nashville, Tenn. - The Saint Louis University softball team opened the 2000 campaign with a 3-2 victory over Tennesse State. Freshman Kristin Rossi scattered three hits and two runs to pick up the victory in her first collegiate start.
Tennessee State pushed across a run in the first but Rossi kept the damage to a minimum. The score remained 1-0 until the Bills surged ahead with three runs in the sixth. TSU answered with a single tally in the bottom of the inning, but would not score again.
Adrie Bogaars led the Billikens with three hits and had a double. Janet Venorsky also lashed out a double and added two hits to the SLU attack. The Billikens played strong defense behind Rossi and did not commit an error.
The Billikens are 1-0 on the season while Tennesse State falls to 0-3.
In game two of the doubleheader, the Billikens completed a sweep of the Lady Tigers with a 3-0 victory. Jennifer Riva picked up her first win at SLU by scattering six hits and striking out three in going the distance.
The Billikens tallied two runs in the fourth inning and added another run in the fifth. Beth Yagge registered a double for the only extra base hit for SLU. For the second-straight game the Billikens did not commit an error.
SLU improves to 2-0, its first 2-0 start since 1987. Tennessee State falls to 0-4.
