MURRAY, Ky. - Saint Louis University baseball posted the season's third shutout with a 4-0 victory over Murray State this afternoon. The Billikens (4-9) recorded 10 hits, while starting pitcher Ryan Warnecke (Highland, Ill./BAC) held the Thoroughbreds to just three hits in his second-consecutive shutout as he improved to 2-1 on the season.
The Billikens got on the board in the second inning when leftfielder Chad Wrinkle (Lebanon, Mo./independence C.C.) and shortstop Paul Miles (St. Louis, Mo./Jefferson College) scored on an error by the 'Breds' second baseman. MSU got two hits in the bottom of the frame, but Warnecke kept them off the board and continued his dominance, sitting down the 'Breds in order for the next three innings.
Saint Louis added a run in the top of the fifth when Brandon Shockley (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) got a one-out walk and scored two batters later on Adam Shea's (Chesterfield, Mo./DeSmet) single to left field. The Billikens got an insurance run in the top of the ninth on Nick Steiner's (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) two-out RBI single that plated Miles.
The Billikens and 'Breds square off again in a noon doubleheader on Sat., Mar. 11.
