Box Score
PEORIA, Ill. -
A six-run first inning sparked a 15-8 win for Saint Louis University baseball this afternoon at Bradley. Mike Orrico (Boca Raton, Fla./Olympic Heights) was 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI to lead the offense. Hurler Jason Schlautman (Chesterfield, Mo./DeSmet) got the start and the win, going 7-1/3 innings. With the win, the Billikens improve to 9-13 on the season.
Two walks, six singles and a double plated six Billiken runs in the first inning. Clean-up hitter Adam Shea (Chesterfield, Mo./DeSmet) started the offensive barrage with a two-RBI double that scored Eric Constable (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette) and Nick Steiner (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) who had each drawn walks. Orrico, Brandon Shockley (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central), Paul Miles (St. Louis, Mo./Jefferson College) and Kurt Evans (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Bros.) all recorded RBI singles.
Bradley came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Orrico's homer in the top of the second and two errors in the top of the third put four more runs on the board and had the Billikens ahead 10-3 through three. After Bradley scored a pair in the fourth, the fifth was the game's only scoreless inning for both teams.
Saint Louis came alive again in the sixth with five more singles that scored four runs. Orrico drove in a pair on a single to center, while Shockley plated a run as did a sacrifice fly by Steven Moss (Arnold, Mo./St. Pius X). Schlautman gave up a run in the seventh and two in the eighth, but his offense added an insurance run in the ninth.
The Billikens are back in action Wed., March 29, when they take on nearby Harris-Stowe at 7 p.m. at The Billiken Sports Center.
