Box Score

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University baseball needed eight runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally past Harris-Stowe 15-5 tonight at The Billikens Sports Center. The Billikens (10-13, 2-4 C-USA) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after three behind a perfect 4-for-4 night from third baseman Brandon Shockley (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central). The Hornets capitalized on Billiken miscues to make the game tight, but the Saint Louis bats came alive in the eighth to secure the victory.

Billiken pitchers, including starter Wes Jaillet (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) who left with an injury after just five pitches, struck out the first four Hornets of the game. The Saint Louis offense drew 10 walks and manufactured runs all evening, scoring 15 times on just 11 hits.

A pair of errors in the top of the fourth put the game back within reach for the Hornets as they scored four runs to pull within a run. Harris-Stowe tied the game in the top of the fifth on Shawn Duvall's double to right center. The Billikens added a pair in the bottom of the sixth when Eric Constable (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette) drove in Jim Bredenkoetter (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet) and Shockley scored on a wild pitch.

The big inning came in the eighth as John McLaughlin (Glencoe, Mo./Eureka) drew a leadoff walk and stole second to get into scoring position for Bredenkoetter. The Billiken first baseman dropped a single into center to score McLaughlin. Shortstop Paul Miles (St. Louis, Mo./Jefferson College) singled back to the pitcher to load the bases for Constable who drew a walk to drive in the first of eight runs in the inning. Pinch hitter Jeremiah Harrington (Los Angeles, Calif./Palasades) single to left to score two more before Nick Steiner's (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) sac fly recorded the inning's first out. Adam Shea (Chesterfield, Mo./DeSmet) flied out to center to drive in the sixth run before Bredenkoetter drove in two more runs with his first triple of the season.

The Hornets put their first two men on base in the top of the ninth before Jacob Baumgartner (Auxvasse, Mo./North Callaway) struck out a pair to close the game.
