Saint Louis Takes Two from UIC

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University baseball captured a pair of victories over Illinois-Chicago (1-10) this afternoon in a doubleheader at The Billiken Sports Center. The Billikens (2-6) won the first game 3-0 in seven innings and poured on the offense in game two with a 9-0 win. First baseman Brandon Shockley went 4-for-5 at the plate and drove in three runs on the afternoon.

After recording only five hits in game one, Saint Louis hung 13 on the Flames in the second contest, including a four-run eighth inning. After hitting Shockley's RBI single in the bottom of the second got the first run in, third baseman Joe Boyer drilled a two-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Designated hitter Mike Orrico repeated the feat in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the Bills on top 5-0. Saint Louis put together four hits and solid base running in the eighth to take the commanding lead.

Starting pitcher Torrey Lombardo got the win, striking out seven batters in eight innings of work to go to 1-0 on the season. Freshman Dan Parker took over in the ninth inning and set the Flames down in order. For UIC, Nick Worm took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season.

In game one, it was Ryan Warnecke on the mound for the complete game shutout to improve to 1-1 on the season. The Flames managed just four hits off the righthander and got just two batters as far as third base.

The two teams square off one more time on Sun., Mar. 5 at 1 p.m. The game can be heard live on WINU 1510 AM.
