Softball Team Drops Two To Open Florida Trip

March 5, 2000

Fort Myers, Fla. - The Saint Louis University softball team was held without a run in its first two games of the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Sunday. The Billikens fell 3-0 to Holy Cross in the morning and dropped a 4-0 decision to St. Joseph's (Pa.) Sunday evening.

In the first game, Holy Cross took advantage of three SLU errors and held on for the victory. Holy Cross tallied three runs in the first inning for all the runs they would need. The Billikens had numerous chances and laced seven hits, but were unable to string any hits together and score a run. Kristin Rossi was splendid on the mound for SLU and allowed just one hit.

Against St. Joseph's, the Bills fell behind 1-0 and the game remained that way until the pivotal sixth inning. Erin Jeffrey held the Hawks in check until they loaded the bases. St. Joseph's cleared the bases with a triple for three runs and did not allow a run in the seventh inning. Jeffrey kept the Bills in the game but was hurt by four defensive errors that led to two unearned runs.

The Billikens fall to 2-4 on the season and play three games on Monday, March 6.
