FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. - After the Billikens put a scare into them yesterday, the Arkansas Razorbacks rolled past Saint Louis University baseball 14-4 this afternoon at Baum Stadium. Arkansas scored in each of the first five innings, including a seven-run fourth. The Billikens (3-9) managed just six hits and committed four errors in the bench-clearing affair.
Held scoreless through four innings, the Billikens were in a 12-0 hole before they got their first hit in the top of the fifth. Right fielder John McLaughlin drew a one-out walk and scored on Jim Bredenkoetter's double down the left field line. Arkansas answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame.
Both coaches began clearing the benches in the bottom of the sixth as the Razorbacks had a comfortable 14-1 lead. Saint Louis scored two in the top of the seventh when Joe Boyer singled down the left field line to score Chad Wrinkle and Derek Muncy. Eric Constable drove in the final run of the game in the eighth on a single to left center.
Billiken starter Wes Jaillet went 2-1/3 innings, giving up five runs and striking out two in taking the loss. The Razorbacks' Brad Bohannan threw three innings and struck out three in earning the win.
Saint Louis travels to Murray State for a single game Fri., Mar. 10 at 2 p.m. before Saturday's noon doubleheader with the Racers.
