Bills Defeated By Furman; Beat Wichita State In Softball Action

Atlanta, Ga. - The Saint Louis University softball team split two games in the second day of action at the Georgia State Tournament going. The Billikens were defeated 3-0 by Furman but bounced back to beat Wichita State 2-0. The Billikens are slated to play against the winner of the Georgia State/Charleston winner late tonight.

In the game against Furman, the Billikens hurt themselves with three errors. In the fourth, The Lady Paladins followed a lead-off hit with two straight stolen bases as the run scored on a wild pitch. In the sixth inning, an error in the infield preceded an RBI double. After a sacrifice, another defensive miscue led to another Furman run and the final margin. Nicole Bohnenstiehl struckout nine batters but SLU managed just four hits and did not draw a walk in the game.

The Billikens bounced back with a shutout over Wichita State on Saturday afternoon. The Billikens scored in their first and last at-bats of the game. In the first, Erin Jeffrey laced a single and Beth Puttcamp drove her in to give the Billikens the early 1-0 advantage. Freshman hurler Heather Hubert kept the Shockers off the board and the Billikens tacked on an insurance run in the sixth. Hubert helped her own cause with a walk and Adrie Bogaars plated her with an RBI double. Hubert struckout five in going the distance for the win.

The Billikens stand at 6-5 on the season. Saint Louis continues in action at the Georgia State Tournament on Sunday in double-elimination play.
