The Saint Louis University softball team closed out three games on Saturday at the Georgia State Tournament by defeating Furman 4-1 in a rematch late in the evening. The Bills tallied two runs in the second and third to back the standout pitching by Nicole Bohnenstiehl.
Furman took an early 1-0 lead in the first after a SLU error and an RBI triple by the Lady Paladins. But the Billikens answered in the second. Kalee Reichert drew a walk to begin the rally and Beth Yagge followed with a sac bunt. After an error by Furman and a walk to Kerri Higgins, Jamie Hayden drove in a run to tie the game. Beth Puttcamp plated Higgins with an RBI single. In the third, Adrie Bogaars lined a hit to center and moved up after a Furman wild pitch. Janet Venorsky reached on an error and Reichert had a fielder's choice to score the third run of the game. Higgins put down a sac bunt for the fourth and final run by the Billikens.
Bohnenstiehl posted 13 strikeouts and went the distance for her fourth victory of the season. The Bills improve to 7-5 on the season. Saint Louis closes out the tournament with games on Sunday.
