Bills Sweep Doubleheader At UT-Martin

Martin, Tenn. - The Saint Louis University softball team swept a doubleheader at Tennessee-Martin on Thursday, taking two one-run games. The Billikens won game one 4-3 and held off the Skyhawks in game two 3-2.

In the first game, the score was tied 3-3 going into the top of the seventh before the Bills pushed across the winning run. With two outs, Beth Puttcamp bunted for a single and promptly stole second. Beth Yagge lashed a single to center field to score Puttcamp with the winning run. Nicole Bohnenstiehl put UT-Martin down in order in the ninth to pick up her first win of the season. She struck out nine Skyhawks for the win. Puttcamp. Yagge and Erin Jeffrey all had two hits in the game.

Game two saw the Billikens take an early 3-0 and then hold on for the win. SLU scored in the first after Jeffrey singled to start the game. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and Puttcamp moved her up a base with a sac bunt. Yagge delivered with the RBI for a 1-0 lead. Janet Venorsky doubled and Heather Hubert and Adrie Bogaars both followed with singles to stake the Billikens to a 3-0 lead after four. UT-Martin put together three hits and took advantage of two SLU errors to pull to 3-2, but Hubert struckout the final batter of the game.

The Billikens have won three straight and are 3-1 on the season. UT-Martin falls to 1-9 on the year.
