Louisville, Ky. - The Billiken softball team saw its' four-game winning streak come to and end and dropped two games during the second day of the University of Louisville tournament. Saint Louis was edged by Toledo 2-1 and was shutout 6-0 by Eastern Kentucky.
Against Toledo, Meredith Henry tied the career record for home runs when she blasted a deep shot to leftcenter for the sixth roundtripper of her career. The Rockets' leadoff hitter doubled to start the game and two outs later was singled home. Henry's blast tied the game in the second, but four straight singles by Toledo pushed across the go-ahead run. The Bills had a chance to tie in the seventh. Adrie Bogaars led off the inning and Cori Bittcik pinch ran for her. Bittick moved up one base on Henry's single and reached third on a fielder's chocie, but was stranded there as the game ended. Heather Hubert struck out nine batters but took the loss.
Eastern Kentucky scored two runs in the first and kept the Billikens off the scoreboard the entire game. EKU scored an unearned run in the fourth and used a triple and an RBI grounder for a single tally in the fifth. Eastern Kentucky sealed the win with two more in the bottom of the sixth. The Billikens stranded eight runners on the basepaths and could not score despite multiple hits by Henry, Erin Jeffrey and Kerri Higgins.
The Billikens are now 4-3 on the season. Saint Louis is next in action at the Georgia State Tournament in Atlanta from March 9-11.
