Softball Team Earns Split At Louisville

Louisville, Ky. - The Saint Louis University softball team earned a split in Conference USA action Saturday at Louisville. The Cardinals took game one 3-1 but the Billikens rallied to win game two 5-4.

Louisville is now 31-13 overall and 6-2 in the league. Saint Louis posts a 16-18 mark and is 2-6 in C-USA play.

In the first game, U of L pitcher Tara McClure pitched a complete game win allowing just one run which was unearned to boost her season record to 13-3. Kristi Rozelle went two for three with an RBI to lead the Cards. Rightfielder Keola Calderon scored two of U of L's three runs.

In the second game, the Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three ininings. Kenzie Meisenburg had a two-RBI double to score Coleen Coughlin and Val Smith.

Saint Louis answered in the fourth with a pair of runs and added aother run in the fifth when Beth Yagge had an RBI single to score Erin Jeffrey.

Louisville took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Coughlin led off with a single and Calderon doubled. A sacrifice fly by Melissa Jacobo scored Coughlin and then Calderon scored on a single by Candi Padilla.

However, the Bills scored two in the top of the seventh and held the Cards off the board in the bottom of the seventh. Nicole Bohnenstiehl went the distance for the Billikens to pick up her 11th victory of the season. Jessica Rak took the loss for Louisville.

The teams play the final game of the series on Sunday at noon (CT) at Ulmer Stadium.
