Softball Billikens Earn Split At Bradley

Peoria, Ill. - The Saint Louis University softball team traveled to Peoria, Ill. and earned a split versus Bradly in nonconference action on Tuesday. Bradley pitcher Sandra Britt held the Billiken bats in check with a three-hitter to lead the Braves a 3-0 victory in the first game. The Billikens used three runs in the top of the seventh to seal a 5-1 win in game two.

In the first game, Saint Louis threatened in both the fourth and sixth innings, but the Braves kept the Billikens off the board in each instance. In the fourth, Billiken first baseman Beth Yagge hit a one-out double off the left field fence and went to third on a Adrie Bogaars single to left centerfield. Britt struck out Janet Venorsky swinging and In the sixth inning, the Billikens used a pair of walks and another single by Bogaars to load the bases with one out, but Britt again rose to the challenge by striking out Venorsky and inducing a flyout from Hubert.

Amy Fouts reached on a fielder's choice and Jackie Starkey followed with a double into the right center to score Fouts. Starkey then scored when Rachel Gensch followed with a single up the middle. The Braves added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Gensch drove home Fouts from second base with a single to right field. Hubert struck out six hitters but took the loss for the Billikens.

In the second game, both teams were scoreless until the Billikens broke through in the fourth inningBogaars hit a one-out double into the right centerfield gap and Venorsky followed with her first home run of the season over the centerfield fence.

Bradley got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom half of the fourth, but the Billikens broke the game open with a three-run seventh inning. Saint Louis used three singles and three Bradley errors in the outburst, highlighted by run-scoring singles from Kalee Reichert and Erin Jeffery. Jeffery picked up her first pitching win of the season and first in over two years.
