Billikens Set School Record For Points In 105-54 Win

St. Louis - The Saint Louis University women's basketball team shattered the single-game scoring record in a 105-54 victory over Gardner-Webb to open the Billiken Classic on Friday night. The Billikens will play the winner of the Indiana State-Southeast Missouri State in the championship game on Saturday night at 8 p.m. The Billikens topped the previous record of 98 points scored in 1979.

The Billikens opened the game on a 10-0 run and held Gardner-Webb without a point until the 17:54 mark. The Lady Bulldogs cut the margin to 14-9 with 13:38 to play in the first half. SLU led 25-16 but went on another 10-0 for a 35-16 advantage at the 3:52 mark of the first half. LaKia Jones started the run with two straight layups. The Billikens settled for a 40-22 lead at intermission. The Bills forced 18 turnovers in the first half leading to 20 points.

Early in the second half, the Billikens were up 49-26 and put the game away with a 16-6 outburst. Shanda Greer led six Billikens in double figures with a career-high 16 points and added a game-high nine rebounds, six on the offensive end. Freshman LaKrisha Brown more than doubled her previous career high with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Harmonie King and Kirsti Holloway both sank four three-pointers, going a combined 8-of 12 from beyond the arc, and finished with 12 points apiece. Casey Collins led Gardner-Webb with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

The Billikens tied a school-record with 39 field goals made and forced 35 Gardner-Webb turnovers. The Billikens tallied 58 points off of GWU errors and also scored 54 points in the paint.

The Billikens win their third straight and improve to 7-3 on the season. Gardner-Webb dips to 1-7 overall.
