The Saint Louis University softball team improved to 4-0 on the season with two wins to finish up the Belmont Tournament in Nashville on Sunday. The Billikens defeated host Belmont 5-0 for its second straight shutout and bounced Eastern Ilinois 8-2. This is the first time in school history the Billikens have won four straight games to open a season.
Against Belmont, tallied twice in the second inning for all the offensive they would need. Adrie Bogaars leadoff the inning with a single and Beth Yagge singled to right. With one out, Jamie Hayden plated both runners with a long single down the right field line to push the Billikens to a 2-0 lead. Beth Puttcamp squeezed in the second run in the top of the fourth and Bogaars had an RBI groundout to complete the scoring. Heather Hubert surrendered just two hits and struck out seven to pick up her second win of the season.
The game against Eastern Illinois was a rematch from the day before. The game produced the game result - a Billiken victory. However, this win was much easier than the extra-inning affair from the day prior. The Billikens erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning to seize control of the game. After Eastern Illinois took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, Jamie Hayden double brought home another run. After a SLU out, Erin Jeffery started a string of four straight RBI hits. Bohnenstiehl closed out the scoring with a solo home run in the sixth inning. She picked up her second straight win, allowing just one run on two hits.
